Almost Fabric Covered Letters

{Click on photo to enlarge.}

The last week I was watching the show, Cougar Town and noticed that on Courtney Cox's kitchen wall the word EAT is spelled out in brightly colored letters. I have been seeing these letters covered in fabric everywhere lately and I just love the way they look. However, I seriously could not find the time to do the fabric thing, so I improvised with a can of spray paint and some good old fashioned  rick rack. I can imagine them covered in scrapbooking paper or buttons or ribbon too... this is what I settled for and I think they turned out great, considering it took about a half hour to complete.

EASY INSTRUCTIONS:
Shop at Michaels or your favorite Hobby Shop for these preprimered letters. Mine were $2.99 each so I chose a SHORT word.
1.) On a nice day, grab your favorite color of spray paint and lightly coat the letters with at least 2 coats. You could use craft paint or even house paint on this project.
2-4.) I used my hot glue gun to embelish with good old fashioned Rick Rack. Make sure you cut the Rick Rack long enough to wrap around the back so the raw edge doesn't show. Watch your fingers! I burnt the heck out of mine :) Tacky glue would also work, I was just impatient.
5.) I hung these on my dining room wall. My kids spent a few days changing my sign from EAT to ATE, but after a while (and some whining from me) they decided to leave them alone.
I plan to make these for my kids rooms too. Not just their names, my teens want the words LOVE, PEACE, DRAMA, MUSIC... BASEBALL... The possibilites are endless.
Have a CRAFTY day!
